MY BROTHER'S KEEPER by ReShonda Tate Billingsley

My brother's Keeper is not an appropriate tittle for this book, seeing as it was both her brother and her sister, plus she wasn't able to help her brother get the help he so desperately needed before he destroyed himself. The James siblings had have a very rough upbringing, including witnessing their parents deaths, both dying in different ways. Aja, being the oldest took it upon herself to always be there for her siblings, neglecting herself in the process until the to good to be true Charles Clayton comes into her life and changes everything. Even though Aja did something stupid that becomes a secret, which she should have told Charles about.  She had the perfect opportunity at the funeral, but NOOOOOOOO, her friend told her not to tell, which was STUPID advice seeing as this WILL be brought up in the future and WILL most definitely ruin things seeing as she was in the wrong all by herself.    You can purchase this book in the link below.

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN by Gwynne Forster

There was a mean father who dies and his his will, his three children hired a detective to find it, he found it and they found out that their father is even more cruel than they thought, THE END. It took me four days to finish this book, it usually takes me a few hours to read a book of this size, but this book was missing some things that could have made it great, such as a good story line, interesting characters and excitement. This book had a lot of events going on that all sounded insignificant, imagine that someone comes to kill you for some money that you owe them, and this issue gets resolved in the time span of a few hours, boom-bam, done.  Even the sex scene sounding boring and uneventful, I wasted my time reading this book, don't waste yours.     You can purchase the book in the link below.

LIGHT ON SNOW by Anita Shreve

There are many ways a parent can get rid of their new born baby with their umbilical cord still attached. Stuffing the baby in a sleeping bag and resting them in the middle of the woods in the dead of winter is just one way of doing it. This story tells us how a brief encounter with something tragic that turns into something miraculous can change the lives of a father/daughter team who are running from the past. I did not think I would have liked this book, it sounded so simple and uneventful, but I was wrong, even though it was simple it had me wanting to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next and to know the story of the baby that changed their lives for the better. Nicky Dillon, the Heroine in this story.  She is only 12 years old and have already gone through so much. Losing her mother in a car crash was hard enough, it seems like she is slowly losing her dad as well. How can Nicky make everything right again when her father prefers to stay stuck in th

MINX by Julia Quinn

An historical romance about an eccentric young lady who did know better but just did not care, my kind of lady. When her guardian dies, the arrival of the new one has her wanting to know better.  Miss Henrietta Barrett, who rather be called Henry, runs around managing Cornwall Estate all by herself, wearing breaches instead of frocks. Henry is quite happy with just the way things are and tries to come up with ways to run off the new Lord, but her plans backfires when William Dunford, the new Lord Cornwall was up to the challenge and made Henry feel  like a Henrietta. Any book where the main character is eccentric is a book for me, this is one of the good books filled with mischief, acceptance, misunderstanding and love.  Henry had too much freedom growing up but now that she has to conform herself to rules she acts out. William does not quite what to do with Henry so he naturally assumes that she must be reformed and made into a proper lady. These two butt heads at e

ICE BLUE by Anne Stuart

What are you suppose to do when someone is trying to kill you over your ceramic bowl.  Do you give it over without any complaints or do you hide it and let thousands of people be murdered. Well Summer Hawthorne chose to hide the urn, not knowing the ramifications of her actions, which has her placed in numerous dangerous situations. Where she is rescued time and time again from an unlikely candidate Takasji O'Brien. Takasji "Taka" O'Brien was sent on an assignment to retrieve the Hayashi Urn and to get rid of any liability, and that included Summer, but for some reason he finds himself unable to do so. Now it is up to this unlikely "couple" to keep the urn out of the evil clutches ( delusional cult ) of those who are set out to "cleanse the world". This book is not really what I usually read but I ran out of the type of books I read at the Library and I'm glad I picked up this book.   Ice Blue had loss, betrayal, murder and buddi

LESSONS FROM A YOUNGER LOVER by Zuri Day

"The teacher is about to get taught..." for truth.  This book is like "How Steller got her groove back" and "Fifty Shades of gray" combined.  This book had me blushing. When you're forty and in the middle of an divorce with your husband of ten years who left you for a younger woman, what are you suppose to do?  Get a young man of your own of course. Fate had it out for Gwen when she literally bumped into her young Romeo, and instant attraction was one of the results.  Her past has Gwen self conscious so at first she doesn't want to unwrap to gift she was given; but he was persistent and they BOTH got what they needed. All is not easy when outside forces are trying to drive them apart so as they can have them for themselves, also some unexpected blast from the past and un-expecting pregnancies. I have read two out of the three "Fifty shades of Gray" books and that book did not make me blush as much as this one did.  I so have t

SIN NO MORE by Kimberla Lawson Roby

I read this book in a few hours, the drama kept coming and coming.  First came lies, then came affairs, then came baby in a carriage. Curtis Black, big name pastor, sinning and making a mockery of his wedding vows, again.  His wife is furious with him, even though she herself did the same thing, twice, but Reverend Black has turned his life around. He has changed for the better and is honoring his vows but his ex-mistress won't let him forget about his daughter and began the shout that started the avalanche of events that occurred. This seem to happen a lot in the church theme books I borrow, blackmail, deceit, betrayal, and many arguing, baby mama drama and baby daddy drama. I guaranty that this book will have you enchanted from page one.     HAPPY READING! You can purchase this book in the link below.

LADY JASMINE by Victoria Christopher Murray

It seems that I have been choosing many church theme books from my local Library lately and this is one of the good ones. Lady Jasmine has become first lady of City of Lights at the expense of her father-in-law being shot into a coma, but she's not complaining. Now that Jasmine have reached where she wanted to, the members of City of Lights who still hold her in contempt for her many past crimes, would now have to listen and respect her. Her triumph is short lived however when lo and behold, someone begins to blackmail her into convincing her husband to step down as minister, or else. Now it is up to Jasmine to find incriminating evidence of all the likely suspects that are out to get her husband to turn the tables by blackmailing her blackmailer, whoever that may be, before her past brings great shame and pain to her future. I like this book very much, at first I did not like how the author revealed Jasmine's secret so early in the book, but as I read on I saw h

ONE PRAYER AWAY by Kendra Norman-Bellamy

Mitchell Andrews made a bad mistake. His failure to cope made it worse. He turned to alcohol, and his angry outbursts drove his wife away--but it drove him to find Christ, sobriety, and newfound hope.  He attempts to win back the love of his life, but the mistakes of his past threaten to undo his second chance. Will he come undone at his weakest moment, or will God give him the strength to endure? Simply put, this book is about forgiveness and acceptance. Seven years is a long time, people can either change or get worse in that frame of time. Virture and Mitchell used to be married, but because of a whole lot of ugly that happened, they split up.  Now seven years later they meet again.  the ugliness of the past reared it's ugly head and had Virture running from Mitchell once again. Mitchell has changed and wants his wife back, but is the past so painful that it is too hard for Virture to forget and also to forgive him? Me personally, I would forgive him, but their w

BASKETBALL JONES by E.Lynn Harris

I heard about this author in a young adult book I was reading and I instantly went out to the library to see if I found any of his books.  This is the only one they have by E . Lynn Harris. Aldridge "AJ" Jones is a kept man. He has access to the best of everything and does not even have to work a regular job. It's all thanks to his man, Dray Jones, an NBA all star whose still stuck in the closet.  The two of them "supposedly" fell in love in college and their relationship is still to this day.  Even when Dray married a woman all because his team mates were asking too much questions. AJ encouraged Dray to marry, because he wants his man to be happy.  AJ always tells himself that he does not need Dray, he just chooses to be with him out of love. When a blackmailer threatens to expose their secret, would Dray finally stand up and reveal who he really is?  Or would he end the relationship and leave AJ with a broken heart? REVEREND FEELGOOD by Lutisha Lovely

I LOVED this book, I just did not want to put it down, and I was sad when it finished.  Everyone in this book had the most twisted way of thinking. Nathaniel "Nate" Thicke is the senior pastor at The Gospel Truth Church.  Even though he is the senior pastor does not mean that he is senior himself. At the young age of 28, Nate is considered a preaching prodigy.  It must pick up where his father and his father's father have left off. Things are not as they seem in the church, with the minister having to take care of his flock, weather spiritual or of the flesh, Nate has his pick of the ( female ) flock. When he falls head over heel in love with one woman, who happens to be underage.  Would his flock understand that he wants to be a one woman man?  Things get even more complicated when a baby is involved. Would is the mother?  Read and find out in the fifth installment of the Hallelujah Love Series, Reverend Feelgood.  Pastor's "taking care of t

LOVE LIKE HALLELUJAH by Lutishia Lovely

This book was  about the bacchanal that happens in the church.  Cheating ( Pastor ) husbands, past mistresses having a secret child nobody knows about, stalking females and just a plate full of craziness, and most important, praising the Lord.  So a day like any other at Mount Zion Progressive Baptist Church. On the cover APOOO Bookclub stated that "This book will make you laugh and shout out loud", it didn't for me at the beginning, O.M.G, this book was SLOW.  I had to force myself to read the first twelve chapters THEN the book started to pick up, FINALLY. Just when you think you have nothing to worry about BAM there comes something to worry about.  It was unexpected and kind of unfair. Someone who lost their mind once, they found their way back to being sane and  also someone who was crazy found their way to being extremely crazy. This book did not have as much drama as I would have liked, and it took WAY to long to reach the good parts, but all in all i
