I was so excited to read this book, especially after the fiasco that happened between Rhys and Helen in the first book of the series, Cold-Hearted Rake. Lady Helen Ravenel has never dared to want anything out of life, especially after finding out the truth of her parentage. This book was so good and I loved it so much.  +Lisa Kleypas  never disappoints with any of her books. Devon Ravenel has just inherited an earldom and while most men would be thrilled for the title, Devon was not one of them. Now this book was the book I did not know I needed in my life. OMG, this book was good. I don't make a habit of re-reading books, but I want to read this book over and over and over again. I had this book on my Kindle app for the longest while, waiting for when I have time between work or school to start it, and I completely forgot about it. Forgive me  +Karen Hawkins . This book started off on a confusing note.  The Clayborne brothers were all talking about a man who ripped off their Mama Rose and Travis nominated himself to track down the thief and get back what was lost. So since going on  +Goodreads  and realising that this was the second book of the series I finally knew the reason why I was clueless of all the names in the beginning and the history behind them. I'm accustomed to books giving a brief history of events in past books and that is why I was stumped at the beginning of this book. After getting out from the confusion st the beginning of the story, which I recommend that you read the first book in the series, For The Roses , to understand what's going on, the book picked up for me and stayed up until the end that is. My American Duchess was so raw to read.  There were barely any sugar coatings and it got right down to the meat of the story.  I love this about Eloisa James, she gives you the barely talked about version of romance. The Duke of Trent wants to marry a respectable English woman that will live up to his standards of how a Duchess is supposed to act. He meets the perfect candidate for a wife at a party he very much did not want to attend.  She was a vision of beauty, standing my herself on the balcony.   He had the most interesting conversation he ever had with a woman and he knew then that he would have her, even if she had the misfortune of being an American. But faith seems to have forsaken him since the lady is already betrothed to none other than his twin brother.  Merry Pelford has already broken two engagements and it would be scandalous for her to break the third one. She chose her fiance for he seemed like a lovable man who would respect...

This story was barely believable but enjoyable to read.  I was confused most of the time but I also laughed a lot.  So by that estimate, the book was good to read. Ashton Blakely has got to be the most honest man in fiction history.  His approach to marriage was expressed down to the bottom line. The bottom line being, buying a wife. His aunt took it upon herself to choose a suitable bride for Ashton, but Ashton was not having it.  If he had to take a wife, he was taking her on his terms and his terms only. He even made a list for his aunt to follow in selecting the appropriate girls for him to choose from. Not only that, he also drew up a contract for his wife to sign, stating that after she conceived, she was to live in London and he would stay at his hunting lodge.
