THE BEST OF EVERYTHING by Kimberla Lawson Rory

Like father like daughter has been a popular saying for many years about girl who take after their father’s, in some cases this is good, but not in this one. Alicia Black now Alicia Sullivan did not want o end up like her father in a number of ways, such as lusting after money and infidelity.  She did not like all the women he used and all the pain he caused  and swore that she will learn from her father’s mistakes and take her wedding vows seriously and be faithful to her husband. Within the first six months of their marriage, her marriage was already falling through and don’t think I am biased but it is all her fault.  Alicia has always been a shopaholic and growing up that was alright because her father could have afford for her to but whatever she wanted, now being a married woman without her father monthly allowance; a husband that makes a decent salary and no job, Alicia still feel the need to shop till she drops and then some. Feeling like her husband is trying t

SOME LIKE IT HOT by Brenda Jackson

Five steamy stories about African decent couples falling in love and getting through the perils of life.  This book includes: 1.       Main Agenda 2.       Strictly Business 3.       Irresistible Attraction 4.       The Hunter 5.       Extreme Satisfaction These stories are extremely steamy and not to be read if you are 17 and under.  This is a book purely about how a man’s and a woman’s body react when in close proximity of each other and chemistry happens that has them both feeling hot and bothered. In one of the stories, Miss Jackson tried something new, well new to me anyhow, she created a love story with no drama what so ever.  No ex-girlfriend or boyfriend, no stokers and no emotional drama.  Two weeks of pleasure and walk away and then they came back together, admitted that they loved each other and got married six months later.  Sweet and nice but still good. Also every story had a bride or a bride to be, it was nothing but love and marriage, and th

THE TRUTH IS THE LIGHT by Vanessa Davis Griggs

OH MY GOODNESS, this book was so frustrating.  At first it was alright, and then I got bombarded with so many back stories that I could not for the life of me remember who’s story went to whom and names was coming at me so fast I kept forgetting them, more than usual. From what I understood a ninety-nine year old Ransom Perdue, when he was young, fell in love with a wife woman and she fell in love with him, and back in the day not only was it frown upon, you could get killed for that.  This love produced a baby girl and here is where it got really confusing, someone wanted the baby to die, either her father or her brother, and somehow the baby ended up being given to a servant and someone went crazy and then she found out she was not crazy and got her daughter back.  See, confusing, to me any way;  maybe this book is a series and you have to read those books to understand what the heck was going on in this book.  If you read this book and understand it. Please tell me what

MY LADY CAPTOR by Hannah Howell

Men are so foolish, always running off to war or starting a war for things that can easily be resolves by negotiations and not being greedy for what is not there’s.  They have no consideration for the family, friends and responsibilities they leave behind just so they can go off and get themselves killed in the war. This is my view as well as what Lady Sorcha Hay taught when she followed her foolish brother as well as her laird to the borderline to bring him back home.  Instead she found out that her brother was taken for ransom and her people have no means of affording that since they barely have a penny to their name.  In other to save her brother she kidnaps a wounded solider on the battle ground to demand a ransom to save her brother. Sir Ruari Kerr was most grateful that he was rescued from impending doom even if it was from a women and gratitude soon turned in to outrage when he found out the their treachery.  He vowed to get back at them as soon as he was away from t

NO OTHER LOVER WILL DO by Cheris Hodges

When all you do is work, work, work and not make any time to play, your best friends will kick you out so that all you do is play, play, play, for a short while at least.  Kandace’s girlfriends and business partners did that to her so that she wouldn’t work herself to death.  Taking her friends advice, she booked a two week vacation at Carolina Serenity where she met playboy hotel tycoon Solomon Crawfords and sparks start to fly. At first the sparks where with anger and soon it turned to passion and Solomon realized that Kandace is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with, and they live happily ever after, THE END. WRONG Solomon has a best friend and business partner Carmen De La Croix, has had a crush on Solomon for a number of years and not the cute innocent crush, the I will kill to get you kind of crush.  At first I felt sorry for her because I taught she was a nice person who was just waiting for the man she loves to come around but then she killed his

HEAVEN FORBID by Lutishia Lovely

With a name like Reverend Doctor Pastor Bishop Overseer Mister Stanley Obadiah Meshach Brook Jr. you know that he has lived a long life living for the Lord.  With a wife he has been married too since he was 20 and she 17, and have four children, you’ll think that he would be happy too, YEAH RIGHT! When Reverend O returned to the church to bring it back from a terrible scandal, instead he just made it worse.  Preaching about fire and brimstone and installing ridiculous rules,  the members of the church just could not take it anymore and attendance has dwindled, a lot, and with attendance down, income is also down. With the return of someone from their past, a crater size problem is also put on his marriage where, to me, a problem arises when lack of communication on his wife part had a big consequence, which is not having her husband all to herself. His wife was just not fair, she made a decision that affected the both of them and failed to inform or discuss her decisi

MISUNDERSTOOD by C.C Graham

This book is about a love story without one of the person knowing that they are a big part of that love story, I loved it. Shy girl with no friend meets girl, boy notices shy girl, a baby gets involved and then a pregnant person is having a romance with someone who is not the father whilst her baby daddy purses her best friend and everyone is cool with that ad oh yeah they are sixteen and eighteen years old, for real. My only disappointment with this book is how it ends, they just say that someone is in the hospital and that’s it, no author’s note saying when the sequel is coming or if there even is a sequel.  There was not even an author’s bio, not cool C.C. Graham, not cool.

NOW YOU SEE HER by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge

I have to say this woman you either have to admire her bravery or call her completely stupid to jeopardize everything she worked so hard to do. Let’s say you find out that the man you married is a ruthless killer and might kill you at any point in time in the future do you accept your fate or escape.  You escape of course and run, far, far away and then you run even further than that; because it is really difficult to convict your husband seeing as he is a corrupt cop and his own boss is afraid of him. Now being free of this maniac would you risk your new lifestyle to save the life of someone who is on death row for crimes he did not commit?  If it was me logically it would be to keep my mouth shut and lay low but I might surprise myself as how Jeanine A.K.A Nina surprised herself. I have to say that this book was nicely naively good, because that was how Nina thought.  She thought that the good guys always win and that the bad guys always lose.  She thought that becau

SIXTY NINE by PYNK

All I can say about this book is that one of these ladies have gone and lost their natural born mind.  It started with three forty year old women who are also best friends decided on New Year’s Day made a pact that they would explore their sexuality more for the New Year. One wants to open her own lingerie store which sells adult entertainment as well, but being flat broke is not helping her achieve her dreams to make it into a reality.  She also have to deal with the situation in which her husband died and that she never got an organism in her entire marriage nor after it, problems, problems, problems. The second one decided to join an online sex cite and to have phone sex with complete strangers and she even went as far as to take up some invitations to meet in hotel rooms and watch people having sex.  There is also the trouble of her ex-boyfriend who left her for another woman, still wants her, but on his terms. The third and crazy mother of one decides to become loo

PERFECT FIT by Brenda Jackson

I always picture being in love would be like you always want to be near the one you love and wanting to know everything about them so you can please them and impatient to spend the rest of your lives together while respecting their boundaries of course. The main character in this book, Miss Sage Dunbar, says she is on love with her fiancé but it is more like she is sleeping with a friend and not even a good friend at that.   If she was really in love with she could have forgiven him in time and strengthen their relationship but it more seemed like it was a good excuse to cancel the wedding I say so because she was dragging her feet through cement before anyways.   And then to add insult to injury her father, the man she idolizes, does something that damages her trust in men on the same day.  Uh Oh poor sage.  Now Sage’s perfect man, Gabe Blackwell (who she have met briefly before) get burned dating something who still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend and now he doesn’t
