Swans Book Review

This book was not what I was expecting.  It was totally different from what I speculated and I have to say, the cover of a book has let me down once again. A certain over used quote comes to mind. Abby Kerr is the chieftess of Clan Kerr.  Yes you heard me right, she, as in a woman, is the chieftess of her clan, when she unexpectedly got the title by default. It may sound good in theory but unfortunately it was not.  The men were not accustom to listening to a woman, much less to actually take orders from her.  As you can guess, she does not have the full support of her people. The only way to get their support is to marry, but that is the last thing Abby wants.  If she marries, her title would go to her husband and she would be nothing but a mere woman. Usually I don't really like to read a science fiction book that is too much removed from what we use today.  This is because I have a hard time picturing what it is exactly I'm suppose to be picturing.  ( if that makes any sense to you ).  I requested this book because of the publisher and I was not disappointed. Pasha hates being a slave. Having to earn his keep on his knees on the most dangerous bar on Warlan. He tried to run away but the officials caught him and brought him back to his owner. Even if, by some miracle, he does escape, where would he return to?  With no memory of who he is, Pasha has no idea who or what is waiting for him.  Yet deep down, he knows that he is meant for more. This particular day in Warlan, Pasha discovers a dangerous looking pirate in the bar.  There was something about him that instantly caught his interest and Pasha knew that he could not let this person walk away from him.  Even if he has to humiliate himsel...

At first I was confused but as the story continued further down, I started to better understand what was taking place.  I especially like the part when Old Man said that “a rock and a tunnel mated and gave birth to the universe”.  I laughed and read that part over and over; it still makes me laugh thinking about it. This story was original with its story line as well as their characters.  The “chosen One” acted like someone who was taken against their will, who did not truly believe the crazy story they told him nor did he want to go any further unless they told him why he had to go in the first place. I liked the story, the character, especially the race of people that are born sexless and can turn either into a male or into a male when it is time to mate.

I did not like this story one bit.  When reading this book it felt like I was watching a tennis match with six players playing the same game all at once.  It was going from one place to the otherwise not making much sense to me. What kind of ending was that, who ends a book the way this man did, it makes it all seem that what they did not even matter.  The key holder just came and gave them back everything that they both wanted and needed.  Odysseus got his wish and returned home to his wife and son and so did Luck, and that was that. Apparently the “Gods” had nothing better to do than to offer them deals that can results in their deaths by saying a story that they cannot guess the ending too.  So all the powerful “Gods” had nothing better to do than listen to some dumb stories, because the stories weren't all that great, neither where the poem at the end.  Mr. Hausman had a good story concept but poor execution in my opinion.

Eve Dallas is the main character in J.D Robb's in death series and I totally love her kick ass attitude as well as her love for her job and her extremely sexy husband Roake. I love the in death series ( as I like to call it) , even though I haven't read the first book in the series (I access book mostly from the Library) I am hooked. Newly promoted Captain and his wife return a day early to find their daughter murdered in her own bed.  Cause of death was being smoldered after being repeatedly raped and strangled for hours. The killer, being the sick son of a gun he is, courted her for months before brutally killing her in that specific way.   He had months of opportunities and easier ways to kill her, but why in this way? The captain must now push aside his grief, at least for the time being, to focus and think about what he did in his past that could have resulted in the murder of his daughter. Meanwhile, her ki...
