I love, love, LOVE Bronwen Evans. I chose one of her books on a whim on +NetGalley, not thinking that I will enjoy her books much, boy was I wrong. I love all the books I've read of her's so far, and I kind of stalk +Goodreads for her upcoming releases all the time.
Waking up naked nest to your brother's best friend is not the vision Lady Marisa Hawkstone intended her marriage to start.
Maitland Spencer, the Duke of Lyttleton, wanted Marisa as a wife, but he did not anticipate having to marry her out of obligation. The mysterious enemy strikes again, doing something that no ones understand her reasoning for.
What purpose can making Maitland and Marisa marry in the most scandalous of ways help their enemy destroy them? My guess, I think she was trying to mess up the friendship between Maitland and Marisa's brother, Sebastian. But that's just my guess.
Maitland and Marisa's marriage started off with a rocky start, as most rushed marriages are. Since Maitland is considered the Cold Duke, Marisa did not have much expectations of him as her husband, since she wanted to marry for love. But the sparks that fly between them has Marisa changing her mind, unfortunately, it seems as if Maitland does not feel the same,
After their wedding night, he has not touched Marisa and it's driving her crazy. For an innocent, she sure knows what she wants in the bedroom and I don't blame her, it's just that Maitland has so many demons from his past, he does not want to let them to be let out and taint his beautiful new wife.
This book had a fast paste and I found myself thinking that this book felt like a race more than a story. Secrets were easily shared and the villainess of the story did not really do anything other than make them marry and pull some stupid stunt at the ending.
In a way, the villainess did get revenge on Maitland. I cried by the means in which she did it in. The pain will live in their hearts forever and I feel so sad for them. What Maitland's step-mother did as a result of this was very surprising and very, very, very sad. I can't tell you any more than this or I will give the whole book away.
I will admit that this was not my favorite book in the series, but it does not make it any less entertaining than the rest of the books in the series. It's filled with secrets and danger and I really want to know who the villainess and what their fathers did that was so horrible that she wants revenge so bad.
