Who wounldn't want a man who does triple duty of being a firefighter, a rescue worker and co-owner of his family's ski-ridge? An old flames who thinks she does not deserve him, that's who. All she has to do is overlook his massive ego and her own issues and she's good to go.
Aiden Kincaid is a man many women dreams about. It seemes that some women would go to such extremes such as stripping down to their underwear and climbing out on a ledge for him to come rescue them.
I wish I was kidding, but someone actually did that, and almost got them both killed. But Aiden being the big, strong man that he was, was able to avert them from sudden death, but it came with the price of his entire team laughing at him.
Aiden loves his job and being a man that loves to live by his own rules, he loves to do things his own way. This includes how he and his family can save their resort from bankruptcy which their bastard of a father, was nice enough to put them into such a predicament.
Dispite all that, Aiden has had a pretty good life, his only regret is that he was not able to keep the love of his life, Lily Danville, from walking away and out of his life ten years ago.
Lily Danville is moving back to Cedar Ridge after walking away from it for ten years. A place filled with the memories of the people she murdered. Okay, murdered is a strong word, but that's how Lily thinks about the incidents that resulted in the deaths of her sister and father.
After she was black listed at her last job, no one wants to take a chance and hire her. So Lily has no choice but to accept the job her best friend offered her, even if it means moving back to the place where all her demons lived.
Being back would not have been so bad if it did not mean bumping into the sexy and talented Aiden Kincaid. He broke her heart years ago and Lily plans to avoid him at all cost. The possibility of that happening was very low, seeing as she would be working at his family resort.
Can Lily ever forgive herself? Would Aiden fix his family's problem? Would Aiden and Lily get over themselves and get together? Find out in the first installment of the Cedar Ridge Series, Second Chance Summer.
I love +Jill Shalvis, really I do, but this book, while entertaining, was not up to par to the other books I've read of hers. Myself, my expectations may have been a little too high, but this book still seemed a little bland to me.
Aiden was a total sweetheart in this book. After Lily walked away ten years ago, his heart was in lock down mode. I don't mean he was a grouch to everyone, I mean that he was not able to truly fall in love with another woman since his heart already belonged to someone. That someone being Lily.
Even if that person took it, threw it on the ground and stomped all over it before throwing it in the trash. Harsh but true. Lily was always acting like the world was out to get her (with good reason) but still, she leaves without telling Aiden goodbye. Now that's just wrong and her reason for doing so was very weak and twisted.
It's just, Lily kept all her pain in all these years and acted like a victim when in reality, it had nothing to do with her. She was carrying around this pain and pushing everyone away all because she thought she had a huge influence in her sister and father's life. I just wanted her to get over herself already.
This had the usual Shalvis humor, which drew me to her books in the first place. I'm just having a hard time believing that this is the first book in a series. I felt as if I landed in the middle of the series instead. One of Aiden's brothers was married and one moment the marriage seems happy and the next, it felt as if he was miserable.
I felt as if I missed a lot in understanding the Kincaids, but the next book of the series, starring one of Aiden's brothers, Hud (what a name), sounds very interesting. While I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the series, I wish you all,
